CHIMERA – NETWORK IMPAIRMENT EMULATOR
Chimera is a 2-port network impairment emulator that makes it easy to introduce a comprehensive range of impairments (e.g. latency & jitter) to traffic between the DUTs in the lab at five speeds from 10GE to 100GE.
Chimera is available in a standalone chassis, or as a NIC in a ValkyrieBay chassis. Chimera’s impairment options are accessed via ValkyrieManager, enabling users to emulate impairment via the same UI being used to generate the traffic.
- Chimera drastically reduces the cost and complexity of emulating impairment to Ethernet traffic at 10GE, 25GE, 40GE, 50GE, and 100GE between the DUTs in the lab. This unique flexibility is provided via two physical transceiver cages, both supporting QSFP28 and QSFP+ transceivers.
- Chimera is a versatile solution that provides consistent, accurate, well-defined and repeatable impairments including packet manipulation, latency/jitter, misorder, drop duplicate, policing, shaping and corruption. This is ideal for benchmarking, stress/negative, “what-if” and regression testing of network infrastructure and Ethernet equipment capable of supporting 100GE such as switches, routers, NICs and fronthaul/ backhaul platforms.
- Seamless integration with Xena’s Valkyrie traffic generation and analysis platform is a key feature, enabling users to emulate impairment via the same UI being used to generate the traffic. Future releases will include a web UI for impairing traffic independently of Valkyrie, the ability to use Valkyrie to impair stateless traffic at speeds up to 100GE, and support for impairing stateful traffic generated by Xena’s Vulcan platform
